Architectural & Construction Technology
In Construction Technology, students will learn how the homes and buildings they live and work in everyday are designed and constructed. This course will take students from the drafting board, to the computer, and onto using tools in the woods lab. Students will get an introduction to architectural drafting by learning to read an architectural scale, creating a floorplan, using 3-D modeling software, and building scale models. During this course the students will also learn to use some tools of the woods lab in order to build models.
Pole Barn Project
During the first nine weeks of the class the students will be introduced to architectural basics in order to prepare them for the more challenging home design project in the last nine weeks. The Pole Barn project accomplishes this this by introducing the students to power tools such as the band saw, as well as expanding on their drafting skills by learning to read in different scales, and creating more detailed drawings.

Home Design Project
For the last nine weeks of the course students will team up to design, draw, and build a scale model of a ranch style home. Students will learn how to read and interpret site, floor, and electrical plans before designing their own for their house. After the creation of the the drawings the students will begin to build a scale framework model of their design. A grade for the model will be determined by the accuracy to their design drawings. At the end of this project students will be assessed by taking a plan reading test.
